Hi! My name is Elizabeth and I'm a retired teacher who is tutoring because I love children and I'm passionate about helping them achieve reading success. My own daughter struggled with reading in first and second grade. She was making no progress and I was frustrated when I realized I could not teach her how to read. I had nine years of experience teaching kindergarten and first grade at that time and a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education. I sought the help of a reading specialist who introduced me to the world of Orton Gillingham. She was a Linda-Mood Bell tutor and graciously trained me as she tutored my daughter. I was absolutely hooked. Years later, I returned to teaching and became certified in special education along with general education. I taught resource (pull out) classes for 8 years serving grades k-5. I attended Orton Gillingham training and I began training my fellow teachers as well. My special education students were soaring and I was asked to be the reading interventionist at my school. I retired in the spring of 2021 as the reading specialist at my school. Im happy to attend IEP meetings with you and help you navigate the world of special education. My experience on both sides of the IEP table as a parent and a teacher definitely gives me unique insights as a consultant.

Experience :

• I am a certified teacher with a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education and 24 years of experience in teaching. I'm certified to teach both general and special education. More importantly, I'm trained in Orton Gillingham and I've used my training to successfully teach many students to become fluent readers. I've also presented many staff development sessions on the Science of Reading for parents and teachers. I am also currently a moderator in the Facebook group, The Science of Reading_What I Should Have Learned in College.
