My name is Joe Risch and I am a special education teacher and authorized reading specialist trained in dyslexia, I have worked with struggling readers for over 16 years and 12 years as an Orton-gillingham tutor. Working with struggling readers has been a passion of mine for many years and view your ability to read as a civil right.

During my education career I have been a teacher, instructional coach, administrator and worked at the state level implementing dyslexia legislation.

I have worked with students from Kindergarten through junior high.

My philosophy is that each student and session should be individualized to the student needs. Each session will move as fast as possible, but slow as needed to ensure that student has mastered the skill. Each lesson will be explicit, systematic, sequential cumulative, diagnostic and multisensory to ensure all lessons “stick”.

I have extensive experience working with students and parents with reading and learning disabilities, ADD, AHDH, and autism.
I offer 30 and 60 minute online tutoring sessions. I also offer initial dyslexia screening. This helps parents understand their child’s present level of performance. I also offer sessions specifically for parents to coach on how to work with their child at home with reading, how to talk with the school, and how to work with the school in conjunction with special education.
