At Martens Literacy my goal is to provide tools for students to gain skills and confidence in reading, writing, and spelling, while affirming their strengths of creativity and ingenuity. I provide a place to find encouragement and support for your child and your family. I also value the journey you are on, as a parent, to find the answers to meet your child's needs.
After being a classroom teacher, and a home educator, my search to help my daughter learn to read led to the Orton-Gillingham structured literacy approach. I learned the method along with my daughter, and eventually received formal training. For the past 9 years I have worked with individuals and small groups, using Orton-Gillingham, Wilson curriculum, and Reading Simplified concepts. I get so excited to see the progress made by each student!
My husband and I live in Hillsboro, KS. We have three grown children, a lovely daughter-in-law, and two precious grandchildren. I enjoy time with my family, reading novels, and canning home-grown pickles.
