Hello!

I have been teaching language and literacy for over 20 years! I have completed extensive training and certification to teach multisensory reading and spelling. I will work with your student to figure out what aspects of reading and spelling are challenging for them and how we can work make it better. Having fun while we work hard is important so I will try to help make that happen.

I love words and I love books. Our lessons will typically incorporate a lot of word play and discovery about words and books. It's okay if your student doesn't feel the same way yet.

Experience :

• I have completed training and am certified as an Certified level practitioner with the Orton Gillingham Academy.
• I have completed extensive training in Structured Word Inquiry, a practice for helping students understand how words are written and why. This study of orthographic linguistics helps students code the word in their brains for use in reading and spelling. Many students with Dyslexia respond well to structured word inquiry because it allows them to make sense of the structure and history of words. Dyslexic students are often able to approach the structure of English more successfully this way than they have been by using phonemes (or word sounds) as their primary tool when they are decoding and spelling.
• I have taught preschool and Kindergarten through second grade. I've also provided reading intervention for students of all ages and even adults. Most recently, I provided therapy for dyslexic readers in middle school and high school.
