I am a senior studying Elementary Education at BYU. In my studies, experience working in schools, and personal life I have seen what a need there is for structured literacy-based teaching. I have done extensive research on the science of reading and know the importance of teaching literacy properly. I have family members with dyslexia who first inspired me to research this way of teaching and come to be passionate about it. I love teaching and I believe the ability to read is such an important foundation for learning other skills.

Experience :

• I am just starting out as a Barton tutor, so I am offering discounted rates. However, I do have extensive experience teaching and working with children in other related capacities:
• Math tutor using the RightStart math curriculum (if you're interested in this as well, let me know)
• Tutor at Sylvan Learning
• Instructor for Snapology camps
• Inclusion Assistant (personal aide for students with disabilities)
• Practicum experiences including teaching in a kindergarten classroom and teaching second grade P.E.
• Over a year of volunteering in various elementary school classrooms, including kindergarten, third grade, and special education.

Education :

• Less than a year away from obtaining a B.S. in Elementary Education
• Minor in Family Life

Orton-Gillingham Training Information :

• I am currently training in the Barton Reading and Spelling system. I also have support from a family member who has taught using the Barton system previously and is in the last stages of getting an Associate Orton Gillingham certification.
